Nutter to seek Council appropriation for Philadelphia bike-share program
Proposed system is small will not reach all constituencies.
Bike Share Philadelphia believes the system should begin covering at a minimum from Erie Avenue to the Navy Yard and from the Delaware River to 52nd Street.

The Move event, Mayor Nutter said.
“Starting
off with bicycles, we have Alta
Bicycle Share and B-Cycle here
today,” making note of the bike
sharing
bikes in the sustainable vehicles demonstration, “and I am looking
forward to having the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities
lead the effort to bring bike share to Philadelphia."

5 years
ago, on January 17, 2008 the Bike Share Conversation Started in Philadelphia
with the Bike Share Forum
That conversation quickly became a loud
roar to bring Bike Sharing to the City. Even with over 2,000 letters sent
to Mayor Michael Nutter asking him to start those wheels rolling,
very little progress has been made.
Without the political will to make it happen, bike share is now
only a whisper in the City.

•Bike Share Feasibility Study Is Complete
Read the
Philadelphia Bike share Study Concept
YES to bike share!
The study verifies the viability of a Public Use Bicycle Program for the City of Philadelphia.
February 25, 2010, the feasibility study for the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities managed by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and funded by the William Penn Foundation was released a year after the deadline requested by a Philadelphia City Council Resolution of June 2008.
The study states there is a market for Public Use Bicycles in Philadelphia. It suggests starting a program with 1,750 bikes in an area to cover Center City, University City and north on Broad Street to included Temple University. Then expand the system to include all of South Philadelphia, more of West Philadelphia, and more area north of Center City to a total of 4,500 bikes.
Now after two years of Bike Share Philadelphia's
advocacy to bring a Public Use Bike Program to our City and now a
feasibility study that says, YES, we need to once again ask Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter
and his Office of Transportation and Utilities to make
Bike Sharing one of their priorities in the second half of his first
term. It is his stated goal to make Philadelphia the most
"Sustainable City in America." Bike Sharing is a highly visible
public element that can be used to achieve his goal. Please, write
Mayor Nutter and let him know we need bike sharing. Write him at
