with the Bike Share Forum
That conversation quickly became a loud roar to bring Bike Sharing to the City. Even with over 2,000 letters sent to Mayor Michael Nutter asking him to start those wheels rolling, very little progress has been made. Without the political will to make it happen, bike share is now only a whisper in the City.
•Bike Share Feasibility Study Is Complete
YES to bike share!
The study verifies the viability of a Public Use Bicycle Program for the City of Philadelphia.
February 25, 2010, the feasibility study for the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities managed by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and funded by the William Penn Foundation was released a year after the deadline requested by a Philadelphia City Council Resolution of June 2008.
The study states there is a market for Public Use Bicycles in Philadelphia. It suggests starting a program with 1,750 bikes in an area to cover Center City, University City and north on Broad Street to included Temple University. Then expand the system to include all of South Philadelphia, more of West Philadelphia, and more area north of Center City to a total of 4,500 bikes.
