•January 2009 Bike Share Demonstration & Special Movie Night
For the one year anniversary of our Bike Share Movement
in Philadelphia, an operational solar powered, wifi enabled 3rd Generation Public
Use Bicycle (bike share) station and bicycles from
Public Bike Systems
was installed and available for the public to
try in front the University of Pennsylvania Bookstore on January 15,
2009 then placed in front of the Academy of Natural Sciences on
January 16, 2009.
Despite single digit freezing temperatures,
hundreds of Philadelphians wanting Public Use Bicycling came to see
and use this system. On the evening of the 16th, almost two hundred
souls braved the cold to enjoy
Streetfilms
at the Academy. We all viewed films
of 'livable streets' from all over the world to inspire change on
our streets in our neighborhoods, and Bike Share Videos on the "Big
Screen."

The first multi-station Bike Sharing program in the City is a huge success!
Even though it
was one day only, Bike Share Philadelphia with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater
Philadelphia, Fuji Bicycles and FRES of the University of Pennsylvania operated two bike
sharing stations for National Park(ing) Day in Philadelphia.
Riders enjoyed picking up bicycles for an one hour free use at
either 16th and Locust or 34th and Walnut Streets. They enjoyed the
link with PATCO,
a ride around the corner, a ride to Penn or a ride to Center City
from Penn.
